Brick Houses in Brisbane

I’m not a big fan of the standard brick house. To me, these homes seem so boring, bland and boxy, but at the same time they are stable, functional and practical. I guess there is a fine line between creativity and practicality in a home but I think modern architecture has now started mastering this balance. When I look at these brick boxes, I see conformity with a lack of creativity and innovation, but you can not go past the affordability and family friendly nature of such a home.
I grew up in an area that was surrounded by beautiful Queenslander houses which I talk about in my previous post here. I also lived in a Queenslander house so I will always have a soft spot for this style of home, but now my parents have moved into a different suburb where most of the surrounding houses are brick.
When I last visited my parents, we took the dogs for a walk around the suburb which gave me a chance to take some photos of the local houses. As I looked at each house, my dislike for these houses slowly began to dissipate and I came to appreciate these homes more and more. They are not all identical brick boxes. Each one does have its own little piece of personality and individuality. Some homes have more charm than others but they all add something different to the suburban landscape.
Here are a few of my fav brick house pics!

What type of house do you live in? What would your ideal home look like?
I would love to hear your thoughts! :-)

I agree with you about brick boxes - but you very rarely get anything else here in the UK. It's funny that after living in one for years, now they feel comfortable and solid. Oh, and central heating is AMAZING!
I wouldn't want one in NZ though with all the seismic activity!

I actually live in a boring brick house :). But it's very nice inside, not the typical Swedish house. The most beautiful houses are, in my opinion, the old fashioned Swedish red wooden houses.

LOVE these brick houses. I love to explore and photograph favorite spots as I stroll too. I'd take ANY home though if it was free, can work with that ;)
