What to Wear to a Beachside, Garden Wedding

What do you wear to a beachside wedding, when the wedding is not actually on the beach?

I have a wedding to go to in a few short weeks and I’m on the hunt for a dress to wear! The wedding ceremony will be at a beachside lookout and the reception is held at a surf lifesaving club. Therefore the wedding isn’t technically on the beach, but it is outdoors. So I would like to share with you some of the dress options I am deliberating over for the occasion!

What to look out for in a dress to wear at an outdoor wedding
There are a few things that I think are essential in picking a dress for this specific occasion.

Not too Short:
You want to look elegant at a wedding and you do not want to look like you are about to head out to a nightclub, so it is best to look out for a dress with a length just above the knees at its shortest. The Dress really should not be much shorter than this. It is amazing what a difference a hemline makes to the classiness and elegance of a dress!

Nice Comfortable Shoes:
Unlike a wedding on a beach where guests are often encouraged to wear some nice sandals or thongs that are needed to be worn in the sand, in a garden beachside setting, nicer footwear is needed. You don’t want to pull out the stilettos that you would usually wear to a church wedding where steady steps and wooden floors are abundant. In a garden or lookout setting, you may want to opt for a shorter heel or wedges to prevent the embarrassment of tripping over some uneven ground or sinking a heel in overly moist soil.

Fresh Vibrant Colours:
I think it is important to get the colours right for a beach side wedding. Light blues, whites, yellows and even pastel colours are perfect for the beach, however florals can also be a great match up for a spring wedding outdoors. Dark colours will feel out of place because they will not really fit with the lovely sunny, outdoor feel of the wedding.

Light and Elegant:
Because it is Spring here in Australia and rather warm, it is important to pick a material that is light and bearable when sitting outdoors in the heat. You want to feel comfortable, and at a beachside wedding it is not needed to look too formal for the occasion. You can look just as lovely in a well cut cotton dress with some nice jewellery and heels.

Here are a few of my favourite selections that I have found from Review and Mod Cloth:
